The Eight Angel or “Angel of the Superscription” on the Ponte Sant’Angelo in Rome (Bridge of Angels) was one of two of the angels carved by Bernini himself. (The originals are housed in the church of Sant’Andrea delle Fratte.) The movement of fabric, expressive body language and rapturous expression of this angel sets it apart, though all the angels are captivating.
